October 2019 Awards

The October meet of 2019 took place Saturday, October 19, 2019, at Joliet. A total of 30 people were in attendance and there were plenty of donuts available. Best Display award went to Steve Gross for his Illinois Dealer mc plates. The Favorite Plate award went to Al Matulis, for his 1954 Illinois trailer #1 plate. The long distance award went to Lou Bodie, from Las Vegas Nevada, a distance of 1700 miles.

   

 

 

August 2019 Awards


Our August meet of 2019 took place Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Wauconda. A total of 34 people were in attendance and there were plenty of donuts available. Best Display award went to Bob Jackson for his Wisconsin display. The Favorite Plate award went to Dale Brigger, for his 1948 Disabled Veteran fiberboard plate. The long distance award went to Mark O'Neil, from Lake Forest Park Washington, a distance of 2029 miles.


April 2019 Awards

Our April meet of 2019 took place Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Joliet. A total of 27 people were in attendance since the weather was not cooperating. There were plenty of donuts available. Best Display award went to Mike Dragas for his early Illinois and dashboard display. The Favorite Plate award went to Al Matulis, for his 1957 Official plate. The long distance award went to Mike Kuehn, from Arnold Missouri, a distance of 276 miles.

 

 

February 2019 Awards

The first meet of 2019 took place Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Peotone. A total of 55 people were in attendance. There were several different types of breakfast food to choose from. Great tasting chili was made for lunch by one of our members Terry Peet. Best Display award went to Tim O'Connor for his Handicapped plates. The Favorite Plate award went to Al Matulis, with his 1935 Indiana #333333. The club has reinstated it's long distance award and the first winner went to Tim O'Connor, from Ft. Lee, Virginia, a distance of 820 miles.

 

October 2018 Awards

The fall MAPA plate meet took place Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Joliet. A total of 40 people were in attendance. Best Display award went to Jason Stone for his Indiana police plates. The Favorite Plate award went to Brian Sawyer, with his 1964 Illinois #7. Long distance recognition went to Jim Dowell from Lake Mary Florida.

 

 

August 2018 Awards


The summer MAPA plate meet took place Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Joliet. A total of 33 people were in attendance. Best Display award went to Robert Lozins for his Illinois railroad fair display. The Favorite Plate award went to Bob Gilbert, with his 1944 Arkansas #666 dealer. Long distance recognition went to John Plag from San Diego.

 

 

 

April 2018 Awards

Another great MAPA plate meet took place Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Joliet. A total of 33 people were in attendance. Best Display award went to Mike Dragas, he brought an Indiana run. The Favorite Plate award went to Al Matulis, with his 1964 Illinois #64. Long distance recognition went to Wayne from Missouri. The prototype MAPA plate for the Bicentennial of Illinois was on display. Advertising for this plate is in the April PLATES Magazine.

   
   

 

February 2018 Awards

Another great MAPA plate meet took place Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Peotone. A total of 51 people were in attendance. Best Display award went to George Balsamo, he brought a 1968 type set. The Favorite Plate award went to Chuck Bahor, with his 1914 Connecticut #1. Long distance recognition went to Tim O'Connor, from Ft. Lee, Virginia, a distance of 820 miles. Also in attendace were ALPCA president Cyndi Mccabe with Chuck Sakryd. Regarding MAPA club news, all of the directors were voted for two more terms. The prototype MAPA plate for the Bicentennial of Illinois was on display. Advertising for this plate will be forthcoming in PLATES Magazine.
 

 

October 2017 Awards

Another great MAPA plate meet took place Saturday, October 14, 2017, at the Joliet Stone City VFW. Although storms in the area were predicted, the room was busy with conversation and tables filled with plates. A total of 39 people were in attendance. Best Display award went to Al Matulis #983, showing many plates with the number 10000. The Favorite Plate award went to Bob Gilbert #2225, with his 1947 Illinois fiberboard semi-trailer plate. Long distance recognition went to new ALPCA member Wayne Stimac #12490, traveling 300 miles from Sullivan, Missouri. Regarding MAPA club news, President Pat Settanni #1441 brought to the meet a paper prototype illustration of what the MAPA plate will look like for 2018, the Bicentennial of Illinois. It was voted on that 200 pairs will be made of this plate. A sample of this Bicentennial plate will be displayed at the February 2018 MAPA meet in Peotone. Advertising for this plate will be forthcoming in PLATES Magazine. Mark your calendar to attend the first MAPA meet, February 24, 2018, at the Will County Fairgrounds in Peotone, Illinois.

 

August 2017 Awards

The August 19, 2017 MAPA meet in Wauconda, Illinois was another fantastic event for the club. A great group of collectors kept the meet lively and enjoyable. To start out the gathering, donuts and coffee were provided. A total of 31 members were in attendance at this festive third meet of the year. The Best Display award was presented to Dale Brigger, from Wisconsin, for his impressive Tennessee motorcycle display. The Best Single Plate award was won by Tom Baur, showing his very rare 1912 Illinois Dealer plate. Long distance recognition at the meet went to John (Jay) Plag, traveling from San Diego, a total of 2,200 miles.Bob West stepped aside as one of the club directors and has been replaced by Jason Stone, from Warsaw, Indiana. Admission to a MAPA meet will remain at $5.00. It was mentioned that the 2017 MAPA plate was completely sold out of 100 pairs.
   

 

April 2017 Awards

It was a great meet for MAPA members who attended the April 29, 2017 event at the Stone City VFW in Joliet, Illinois. A total of 31 people were in attendance at the club's second meet of the year. The Best Display award went to Mike Dragas, showing his #64 Illinois Antique Vehicle run from 1968/1969 to 1978/1979. The Best Single Plate award was given to George Laverick with his 1936 President Roosevelt election topper on a 1936 Illinois passenger plate. Interestingly, there was a tie ballot vote for Best Single Plate so MAPA President Pat Settanni took a hand count vote and the result, again, was a tie. Pat again took a second hand count vote and George Laverick was the winner. Long distance recognition went to Dale Ashe, traveling 250 miles from Two Rivers, Wisconsin.
   
   

 

February 2017 Awards


If you missed the MAPA plate meet, February 25th, in Peotone, Illinois, you missed a great event for the club. A total of 51 members and their families were in attendance, not only from Illinois, but those from Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio and Virginia. Also in attendance was ALPCA President Cyndi McCabe. It was a house full for the first MAPA meet of the year. There were great displays including those from Brian Drake, Bill Johnson, an Alaska run, Australia motorcycle, Canadian motorcycle and Illinois 3-digit pairs from 1936-1940. Surprisingly were the 16 individual plates competing for the Best Single Plate award, including a 1943 Illinois motorcycle plate with the attached Evanston, Illinois fiberboard tax shaped plate from Daryl Williams. The Best Display award went to Mike Kononov, showing a fantastic police plate and police patch display from throughout the U.S. and D.C. Chuck Bahor, from Indiana, won Best Single Plate award with his 1911 Indiana plate. Long distance recognition went to Tim O'Connor, from Ft. Lee, Virginia, a distance of 820 miles. Everyone enjoyed coffee and rolls in the morning. Hot dogs, chips and pop were served at lunch provided by Bill Johnson. A get well card was signed by those in attendance for George Balsamo, who is recovering from recent surgery. Bob West provided a photo of the new MAPA plate to be issued this summer. Application forms were handed out. A moment of silence was observed  for club member Jim Archer, who passed away in December. A lively auction kept members bidding and buying, thanks to Chuck Sakryd, the auctioneer. The last MAPA plate event was October 15, 2016, in Joliet. It was a great representation for the club. A total of 29 members were in attendance. Best Display award went to Mike Dragas, showing his 1936 - 1955 Wyoming plates. The Best Single plate award was presented to Al Matulis, showing his 1919 Illinois 400000 plate. Long distance recognition went to Tim O'Connor, from Fort Lee, Virginia, a distance of 840 miles.

 

August 2016 Awards

The Wauconda MAPA meet on August 13, 2016 was a great event. A total of 32 people were in attendance. Best Display was won by Tom Baur showing plates once owned by Judy Barr Topinka. Best Single plate was won by Brian Drake showing his # 412 Cuba plates. Long distance recognition went to Chuck Sakryd and Cindy McCabe, traveling a distance of 350 miles. 

   
   
   
   

 

April 2016 Awards

The April 30th Stone City Joliet MAPA meet was another huge success for the club. A total of 39 people were in attendance. Bob Gilbert won Best Display showing his fiberboard and metal plates from the World War II era, including the 1948 and 1949 Illinois Tucker plates. Al Matulis won Best Single award showing his #3 plate. Long distance was given to Dale Ashe from Two Rivers, Wisconsin, driving 250 miles. Also taking place at the meet was a entire member group photo. It was a great day for license plates.

   

 

February 2016 Awards

The February 27, 2016 MAPA plate event was a big success for the club. The new location in Peotone, Illinois provided ample space to hold a great event. With 5,000 square feet of space, it was a terrific location that had great table space and generous room for displays. There were 65 people in attendance. The Best Display Award went to Scott Zillmer from Madison, Wisconsin, showing his state plate names. Al Matulis won Best Single Plate, showing his 44444 plates from Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Long distance recognition went to Tim O'Connor, from Fort Lee, Virginia, a distance of 875 miles.
